NEAT January-February 2001 Interesting Objects
2001 BQ61 = MMQ3P8 is 6.5 km (4 mile) Mars-approaching asteroid discovered with NEAT on
31 January 2001. Its a,e,i,q = 2.588945, 0.354168, 28.26673, 1.67202 (G. Williams, MPC).
2001 BZ64 = MMB66B is a 2 km (1.2 mile) Mars-approaching asteroid discovered with NEAT
on 30 January 2001. Its a,e,i,q = 2.9409189, 0.4465129, 29.27281,1.6277607 (T. Spahr, MPC).
Comet 2001 B2= MK7BFH was discovered with NEAT on 24 January 2001 and followed up on
25 January 2001. This comet is a one-time visitor to the inner Solar System. Its has a parabolic
orbit with perihelion near Jupiter (orbit visualization).
2001 BZ39 = MIDP52 is a 1-km (0.6 mile) Earth-approaching Amor asteriod (orbit
visualization), discovered with NEAT moving 0.29 deg/day on 19 January 2001, and followed up
on 24 January. Its a,e,i,q = 1.96, 0.42, 9, 1.1473 (T. Spahr, MPC).
2001 BA40 = MJTC4D. 2001 BA40 is a 1-km (0.6 mile) Earth-crossing Apollo asteroid (orbit
visualization), discovered with NEAT moving 0.8 deg/day on 23 January 2001, and followed up
on 24 January and 25 January. Its a,e,i,q = 1.12, 0.26, 13, 0.8301 (T. Spahr, MPC).
2001 BJ16 = MI05VN is a 1 km (0.6 miles) Earth-approaching Amor asteroid (orbit
visualization). It was discovered with NEAT moving at 0.65 deg/day on 18 January 2001. Its
a,e,i,q = 1.39, 0.15, 23, 1.1851 (T. Spahr, MPC).
2000 YV137 = MBJ7U8 is a 1 km (0.6 miles) Earth-crossing Apollo and is considered a
Potentially Hazardous Asteroid, but not an immediate threat to the Earth (orbit visualization).
It was discovered with NEAT on 31 December 2000 and recovered with NEAT on 22 January
2001. Its a,e,i,q = 1.4476 , 0.3104252 , 28.08531 , 0.9982 (T. Spahr, MPC).
The large (50 km or 30 mile), bright (14 magnitude) main-belt asteroid Armenia was detected
with NEAT on 22 January 2001.
NEAT also recovered 2000 YF29 on 17 January. 2000 YF29 is a potentially hazardous asteroid
discovered with NEAT in December 2000 and is now moving nearly 4 deg/day.
2001 BV1 = MHAZ6G is a 1.5 km (0.9 mile) Mars-approching asteroid discovered with NEAT
with a,e,i,q = 1.7179, 0.0454, 33.7402, 1.6399 (G. Williams, MPC).
