NEAT April-May Interesting Objects

The new Near-Earth asteroid, 2000 HD24 = JTRTZG, was discovered with NEAT on 30 April 2000 and followed up with NEAT on 1-2 May 2000. This is a 1-km (0.6 mile)-diameter Earth-crossing Apollo asteroid that is highly eccentric, e = 0.62, with an orbit that ranges from beyond Mars' orbit to within Venus' orbit. It is not considered potentially hazardous. A visualization of the orbit is available (R. Baalke). The orbital parameters are: a,e,i,q = 1.34, 0.62, 9, 0.5113 (G. Williams, MPC).

Don Quixote, a large Amor NEA, about 10 km (6 miles) in diameter, was also detected with NEAT on 30 April 2000.
